I did not realize that a flip flop of holidays would bother me in the least. In Canada we go from Halloween to Christmas. The lack of a true Thanksgiving is just ODD. Canada’s “Thanksgiving” is a few weeks before Halloween and is not the same as the celebration in the United States. We did celebrate the Canadian Thanksgiving with 4 families here. We cooked a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings…..but, I longed for sameness.
Holidays are odd when they are changed. I have realized that I want sameness and tradition. It is the tradition that keeps us grounded.

So, a few days before Halloween, Christmas decorations, trees, and toy sales began in Calgary. There is essentially 2 FULL months of Christmas. My scarecrow, fall decorations, and autumn flare are now outdated. Thee white lights have began and it is Christmas. …in a place with fewer churches than any place I have ever lived. The commercialism of this very important holiday in a place that I find so focused on everything but God, leaves me unsettled.
I will decorate when we ususally do….when we come back from the States. Only after OUR Thansgiving at the END of November.

I will be fine, I just long for sameness and what we miss most…family and friends….
