Everyone ALWAYS give me crap about being TOO over protective with the boys. I never want them to see violence, shooting, horrible fits of anger…etc… I GET CRAP ALL THE TIME!!
This weekend while at a Yard Sale, Claire finds “Indiana Jones - Raiders of the Lost Ark”….rated PG. I was hesitant about it, but, I remember seeing it in 8th gradish…and do not remember being scarred from it…so, I let them watch it. They watched it 4 times since Saturday!!! That is essentially ALL they have watched!
SOOO…today, Adam comes screaming and crying….holding the back of his head……AND TELLS ME!!!!!!!!!!! ANDREW WAS PLAYING INDIANA JONES AND THREW WOOD AT MY HEAD!! A HUGE BLOCK OF SOLID WOOD!!! They were his “stones”!!!! WHAT THE HELL WAS HE THINKING!!!???
Call me overprotective……..but, these boys are in some SERIOUS media lock down! WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING???

we so rented all 3 thinking we would watch them first and then let the boys see them….NO WAY!!! I will take crap from anyone who thinks those movies are in ANY WAY suitable for kids!!! I was horrified! People say today’s ratings are off but I think they allowed way more to slip by in the early 80’s.
I am with you and my kids will NOT be seeing any of the IJ’s and Dylan is almost 10!!!

Zack has only begun watching shows like this and he’s 13. I am still not happy about it but he doesn’t go around acting like it at his age. It is tough - when the Superhero movie came out the kids really wanted to see it - it looked funny, well during our kid free night we watched it on, on demand….uh huh definitely not kid friendly too way too many induendos (sp) anyhow I will not even allow Zack to watch that one. It is said how they get stars that kids see on shows and make movies look like it will be ok - glad we were able to sit down and watch that before letting the kids.
I have used the Dove site that your friend recommended a little more often…to see what they say before I make a choice for the kiddos.
I belong to Dove and have bought several DVDs from them, all of which I’ve been happy with. My kids don’t watch these things either. Kevin cannot even watch Power Rangers without becoming one. They were letting the kids in aftercare watch it each day from 5-6 pm and Kevin started coming home CRAZY and I could not figure out why until the day I picked up and saw what they watched. Once they turned that off it all went away! He cannot even play the boxing game on the Wii because he gave my nephew a left hook last time they played together! Kevin is so non-violent and passive that my nephew was more shocked from the act than from the hit. He cried forever because Kevin hit him, not because it hurt. And my nephew is very aggressive so he’s used to that stuff (he plays with all boys all the time and my brother wrestles with him constantly) but he just wasn’t used to it from Kevin.
Anne, I know I haven’t written in awhile, we’ve been sick here too. Kevin’s having more ear issues but you have been on my mind since day 1 of the Georgia problems. As you know, it’s as close to my heart as yours (to those who don’t know me, Anne was a big help to my brother and sister-in-law in their quest to adopt from Georgia and my nephew is from Tblisi). The sadness is weighing heavily on me. As for the boys, I hope by now they are feeling better and please know that Andrew will shine, it just takes time. I know your pain, my friend.

Oh my Anne! I have done the same dumb thing! Only with my boys it was Superman, George dressed in his Superman pj’s thought he could fly off the back of the couch! YEAH, needless to say George flies like a rock! Live and learn!
