I officially know WHY hockey is the ONLY sport they do in Canada!!! THE COST OF REGISTRATION!!!
I am BLOWN AWAY!!!
Andrew’s registration fee is $760.00 and Adam’s is $475. I thought that the little league fees of $170.00 were high!!!
Claire is hell bent that the boys are playing soccer. I enjoy them playing in uniforms that are less than their body weight! SOOOO…we have until July 15th to make up our minds.

I have heard that hockey is expensive - and Anne if you don’t like being up early and I mean EARLY don’t get the boys signed up for Hockey!!! practice and game times are early (by 6-7am) and the older they are the earlier it is…..also travel -mostly when they are older for tournaments and such are held all over; I know you like to research but have you really done your research with this one
Don’t mean to discourage you but there is a mom at the school who has her son in it and he loves it - I hear is a excellent player and I think both her girls are trying hockey now too, but she has told me its expensive. We have friends who’s daughter plays hockey as well - she loves it, they are not early am people and that has been difficult for them.
Just thought I’d shoot out what I’ve heard :0)
Have a great day- How has the weather been up there anyway?
I’ve heard there is a “grass-roots” hockey league that is more recreational and not so serious and less expensive. Not sure where to find it but I’ve heard it’s out there somewhere.
The practices here are at normal times because there are a BILLION rinks here. They literally have one on every block. Sort of like Duncan Donuts.
grassrootshockey.ca, just checked it out. waaaayyy cheaper and less chaotic schedule. I might think about if for my boys too.
Hi there!
I am with Lisa on this one. Unless you are prepared for a life FULLY dedicated to hockey DON’T DO IT!!! We have a lot of friends who got thier kids in early just for fun and are now sucked into it. If your child shows ANY talent in the sport at all coaches jump all over them to play in invitation only games and tournis. All most every weekend will be dedicated to one hockey thing or another. I have two friends who have not had a vacation in over 10 YEARS!!!! Because even if they had a free weekend they have spent all thier money on hockey. Look into how much equipment costs as well. We didn’t take that into account when we put the boys in LAX. Pads alone can be over $200 each. On the other hand you are in a prime spot for the sport and my whole family are HUGE hockey fans so we would cheer the boys on. Also, if they do play check into local equipment swap sales. Most league web site have a place to list used equipment since there are a lot of little ones who get into it and quickly grow out of equipment.
Lisa, what would Dorra do with all her free time if she weren’t at the rink every weekend at 6 AM!!!!???;)
Miss ya,
H
Hi Anne and Claire,
Hey, if the boys want to try it. It won’t take long for them to decide if they like it or not.
My mum always regretted not letting my brother try. We tell the kids, you can try any sport you’d like, but once you’re signed up, you must commit to it - (i.e., no quitting the team after 2 weeks if you change your mind.)
Yes, there are tournaments and lots of games, but if you find the right league, it doesn’t have to be any more insane than you think you can handle. We’ve met some really great people through hockey.
If the boys want to try it, I say “do it”!!
xokath
welllll… Look at the bright side… at least you dont have to pay for ice time… here ice time is like an extra 200 bucks A MONTHHHHHHHH!!!! lol… Krista
If your living in Calgary you at least have to give it a shot !!!
They are going to look way to cute in their hockey uniforms !!!
Hockey pucks and missing teeth are all I’m envisioning. However, you ARE in Canada…..good luck with the decision! Love you and miss you too. Are you coming to Hershey?? You haven’t been on the board at all and we want to know! We are waiting for your reply.
