Our Journey IS Our Destination

Two Wheels and a smile

Andrew has been BEGGING to ride his bike to school. Yesterday’s weather was simply beautiful and I saw over 40 children’s bikes outside the school. Last night I let Andrew know that I would let him ride his bike to school if he was 100% ready for school at 8:15(he has to be in class at 8:45). He promptly went to his room and chose his clothes for school and went RIGHT to bed. This morning Adam was up first and Andrew slept in a bit. I heard some  stirring in Andrew’s room…I go in and he HALF DRESSED!!! Honestly, I just was STUNNED! He was so excited, he was about to BURST!! He ate, FIXED HIS HAIR(that is a blog of it’s OWN!!) and went out to get his bike ready! It was the sweetest thing ever!

I put on my “walking” shoes and we headed off. We got to the end of the road and met up with Karen, Griffin, and Graham….our friends down the street. Andrew QUICKLY let me know that he would like to ride with them and that “he would be fine”. I worked it all out and they were off….on his bike…a smile that could light the world….riding his bike to school!

Sometimes a tiny thing…a small amount of freedom and confidence…..can make such an amazing change in a young boy’s life.

Great, until Andrew gets wiped out by Graham!!! Claire will be interested to know that Graham (I think… didn’t really see it happen, just the aftermath) cut him off (that crazy driver)! Andrew was a trooper, just had to pause for a minute and shook it off. And we were ALL late for class today.. but enjoyed the ride.

Yep, just to clarify, pretty sure it was Graham who caused the mishap. He rode in front on the way home and either stopped or weaved all over the sidewalk in front of me a million times. Note to Andrew “ride in front of Graham!”

Andrew was SO un-fazed by it all! He was just so HAPPY to have his bike at school! He did not even mention it to me a lunch hour!

Wow !! How lucky the children are that they can ride their bikes to school. It must be so nice seeing all the kids with their bikes. Way to go Andrew !!! Nice job Anne !!!
